The Big Picture

As your PE firm seeks to maximize value from its investment, having the confidence that the management teams at your portfolio company(ies) have the right capabilities to execute against their investment thesis is vital.  Executives can, with proper coaching, achieve dramatic improvement and create more of the direct value you expect from this role.

Over 6-12 months, a designed alliance with an executive client can dramatically close the disconnect between the executive’s capabilities, and his or her actual current leadership style and results.  This often includes a focus on the 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership, to drive value through better outcomes.

How does executive coaching work?

Starting with a thorough assessment of the needs, NEXT New Growth’s coaching frameworks are designed to strengthen the executive and build capacity for sustainable growth.  This targeted, experiential approach develops self-awareness, big-picture thinking, and dynamic leadership.

Executives typically come away with systematic approaches to driving performance that include cutting through distractions, communicating with impact, and unleashing the potential of their peers as well as direct team.

While executive coaching is tailored to individual needs as revealed by formal assessments and informal observations, this program brings about personal transformation through a relentless focus and clear accountability related to the 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership – wherever the baseline scores indicate the greatest need:

  1. Inspire a Shared Vision

  2. Challenge the Process / Raise the Bar

  3. Model the Way

  4. Encourage the Heart

  5. Enable Others to Act / Empower and Get out of their Way

What does an executive coach’s process include?

  • Pre-coaching qualitative and quantitative 360° phone or on-site interviews involving the leader’s supervisor,  peers and direct reports to set a baseline for performance

  • Post-coaching qualitative and quantitative 360° phone or on-site interviews with the same stakeholders to measure performance improvement

  • One-on-one coaching sessions that address the leader’s individual perceptual, developmental and leadership needs. See case study samples.

  • Periodic Sponsor updates that include both the executive and their manager (often the CEO), and possibly the private equity Operating Partner, depending on how we design the engagement with the executive

How We Work Together

Executive coach engagements are generally contracted in six-month intervals. (CFO coaching plans are more tailored.) Sessions are offered in person, on the phone or as a combination.  They are available on-site at your corporation, in the greater Los Angeles area, or through video-conferencing.
